La Libertad Avanza Becomes First Opposition Force in Argentine Congress

Buenos Aires, Dec 2 (NA) – President Javier Milei celebrated on Tuesday that La Libertad Avanza (LLA) will become the first minority bloc in the Chamber of Deputies when Congress is renewed on December 10, following the departure of lawmakers from Unión por la Patria. "Welcome @Franmorchio to the La Libertad Avanza bloc. End," Milei wrote on his X (ex Twitter) account, citing a message from the head of the LLA bloc, Gabriel Bornoroni. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), after much behind-the-scenes maneuvering, LLA managed on Tuesday to overtake Unión por la Patria (UxP) in the number of national deputies. Therefore, after the 127 elected representatives are sworn in during the preparatory session this Wednesday, the opposition will showcase its new status as the first minority. The second political force had 96 lawmakers, but the governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, formalized the departure of three national deputies from that province, who will form the new Elijo Catamarca bloc. In this way, UxP was left with 93 legislators, and LLA, which had 94, now has one more with the arrival of Francisco Morchio, from PRO. "First minority confirmed. Your unconditional support in these two years and your unwavering commitment for what is to come further strengthen our course towards a future of freedom and prosperity," Bornoroni wrote on the same social network, tagging the national leader, Martín Menem, and the La Libertad Avanza Deputies account. He also added: "With your valuable contribution, we are reaching the first minority, which will allow us to continue forcefully promoting the ideas of freedom, leaving behind the Kirchnerist populism that has done so much damage to our country VLLC!!!VLLC!"
