Argentina warns of severe penalties for driving with fake licenses

Buenos Aires, November 18 (NA) - The National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) issued a statement reinforcing and reminding that driving on the country's roads constitutes a serious criminal offense, which is punishable. In this regard, the ANSV warned that 'driving with a forged license is a criminal offense and a serious traffic violation.'

Those caught with such false documents are exposed to a criminal case for using a false public document, heavy economic fines, which in the province of Buenos Aires can reach up to $1,700,000, and the immediate impoundment of the vehicle.

According to the National Traffic Law (24.449), every driver must be duly authorized and carry the corresponding license for the type of vehicle they are driving. When detected, the professional driver admitted to having purchased the license through social media.

In this situation, the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) warns that driving with a fake or tampered license is not a minor infraction: it is a crime. Its violation prevents continuing circulation and constitutes a serious offense, according to article 77 of the same legal text.

How a fake license is detected

During controls carried out by the ANSV, it is verified that all drivers are circulating with the mandatory and valid documentation. When there are doubts about the authenticity of a National Driver's License (LNC), agents verify through the national system whether the driver actually has the license, if it is valid, and if it matches the data displayed during the control.

Suspicions usually arise from irregularities in the physical appearance of the document, such as the absence of special inks visible only under ultraviolet light or inconsistencies in the printed data.

If the document is confirmed to be fake, the corresponding judicial procedure for alteration or use of a false public document is initiated, the infraction is recorded, and an authorized alternate driver is requested to continue the journey.

If the driver is in violation, they may face legal actions and fines. And, as reported by the Argentine News Agency, in addition to legal actions, said infraction can generate fines that far exceed $1,000,000.

National Viality must carry out 'urgent' works on Route 40, following a court ruling.

'The National Road Safety Agency warns that driving with a forged license constitutes a criminal offense and a serious traffic violation. In addition to judicial sanctions, the infraction may imply fines of up to $1,700,000. Days ago, during an operation carried out on National Route 34, at the height of Susana, in the province of Santa Fe, a truck driver tried to deceive local traffic agents with a fake National Driver's License. Otherwise, the vehicle is impounded.'

It should be noted that during operations, the digital LNC available in the Mi Argentina app can also be presented, as established by Decree 196/25, to which 22 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires have already adhered.

Security measures of the National Driver's License

The LNC has multiple elements that allow its authenticity to be verified:

h7VCCw

Complete personal data.

Unique supply number assigned through the National Driver's License System (SINALIC).

UV ink visible on both sides under ultraviolet light.

Individual security code.

These mechanisms prevent their counterfeiting and allow agents to quickly identify tampered documents.

Driving responsibly

The National Driver's License is the certification that a person is in legal and technical conditions to drive. Counterfeiting or using a fake license is not only a crime but also a conduct that puts lives at risk.

According to the inspectors, the plastic lacked holograms and showed visible signs of counterfeiting.
