Santilli and Kicillof: Escalation of Political Conflict in Argentina

Argentina's Interior Minister, Diego Santilli, has sharply criticized Governor of Buenos Aires Axel Kicillof, refusing to meet with him over his failure to sign key national agreements. The conflict is escalating as Kicillof demands the return of funds and the resumption of stalled projects.

Santilli and Kicillof: Escalation of Political Conflict in Argentina

The Minister of the Interior, Diego Santilli, has once again strained the relationship with the Governor of Buenos Aires Province, Axel Kicillof. He asked him to be 'consistent' instead of requesting meetings with the Nation or expressing on social networks that he feels 'excluded' from meetings with provincial leaders. 'You did not adhere to the May Pact. I take note,' Santilli posted, echoing the request of Buenos Aires official Carlos Bianco, who is demanding a meeting with the Executive Branch to 'claim the funds that the national government took away from the people of Buenos Aires and to resume the execution of the 1000 works left abandoned' in that jurisdiction. Although Santilli has been meeting with various governors, a formal meeting with Kicillof's officials is not on the agenda because 'he did not sign the May Pact.' During a press conference with the governor of Entre Ríos, Rogelio Frigerio, the head of the Interior Department asked Kicillof: 'Let's be consistent and coherent. There are millions of people from Buenos Aires in the middle. I take note.' The Minister of Government of Buenos Aires sent a note to the Ministry of the Interior - which he posted on his social networks - in which he requested a meeting to negotiate the transferable funds that the national state owes, and Santilli replied that he 'took note' of what was proposed. This is not the first time the national official has referred to these back-and-forth exchanges with Kicillof. 'Don't say one thing on one side and another thing later on another side. Don't write one thing on social media and say another one,' Santilli emphasized.

'You did not adhere to the Recidivism Law. And you see yourself as excluded? Don't write one thing on Twitter and do another in public. You did not adhere to the RIGI. Do you have to ask for permission from Cristina Kirchner?' Santilli stated.
