Argentine Unions Prepare Own Agenda for Labor Reform Debate

A sector of the union movement that backed Cristian Jerónimo's candidacy for the CGT's triumvirate will push for the federation's own 'programmatic agenda' and seek to have an 'internal' debate to discuss the labor reform promoted by the government. The 'Agenda Siglo XXI' bloc, which includes unions like UOCRA, AEFIP, Ceramistas, and Unión Ferroviaria, and was responsible for Jerónimo's candidacy as head of the Glass Workers' Union for the triumvirate elected by the CGT last week, defined this on Monday. 'We are going to take this to the Board of Directors,' one of the union leaders who attended the meeting, held at the AEFIP headquarters, told the Argentine News Agency. This sector does not want to rush to take a position on the labor reform, whose content is unknown, and prefers to promote 'dialogue,' 'debate,' present 'its own proposals,' and also call for self-criticism within the CGT. That is the position the bloc will take to the Board of Directors, one of the union leaders anticipated in a conversation with this agency. The meeting was attended by union leaders Gerardo Martínez (UOCRA), Domingo Moreyra (Ceramistas), and Sergio Sasia (Unión Ferroviaria), as well as the host Guillermo Moser, head of the AEFIP union, among others. The 'Agenda Siglo XXI' bloc was presented last month with the aim of generational renewal within the CGT, and with that objective, it promoted Jerónimo's candidacy. Although the date for the next CGT Board of Directors meeting had not yet been set, the swearing-in ceremony for the new leadership will take place this Tuesday. The CGT elected the new triumvirate last Wednesday, composed of Jorge Sola (Seguro), Jerónimo, and Octavio Arguello (Truckers), who will lead the organization until 2029. 'We want to debate a programmatic agenda. The CGT must have a program and proposals.'
