Argentine Government Negotiates with Governors for Reform Support

The Argentine government is holding a series of negotiations with provincial governors to secure support for key reforms. While initial phone contacts with allies have been made, formal meetings are yet to be scheduled. Upcoming visits are expected from the governors of Santa Fe, Tucumán, Misiones, Mendoza, and Corrientes. The executive branch's goal is to strengthen ties with the provinces to address specific demands, which is crucial for obtaining the necessary votes to approve the 2026 budget and pass labor, tax, and penal reforms during the extraordinary session scheduled for December 10-31. Last Friday, Ministers Adorni and Santilli met with the governor of Chubut, Ignacio Torres, and the governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil. The governors received assurances that agreements with outgoing officials will be honored, but they requested the draft reforms to begin studying them. This Monday, the Chief of Cabinet, Manuel Adorni, and the Minister of the Interior, Diego 'El Colo' Santilli, will receive the governors of San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, and Córdoba, Martín Llaryora, to continue the search for consensus on President Javier Milei's second-generation reforms. Plans also include coordinating a new group photo with the provincial representatives, similar to one previously called, but this will happen after bilateral talks with each are completed. The visit of Salta's governor, Gustavo Saénz, whose relationship with the libertarian administration is fluctuating, is also on the agenda.
