Alejandro Lew Appointed as New Secretary of Finance of Argentina

Alejandro Lew will be the new Secretary of Finance of the Nation, replacing Pablo Quirno, who has been appointed as the new Chancellor. This was announced today by Minister of Economy Luis Caputo.

Lew has been part of the government since December 2023, serving as the director of the Central Bank (BCRA), an entity headed by Santiago Bausili. He held that position for only eight months before being replaced in July 2024 by Baltasar Romero Krause.

The new official of the Ministry of Economy is an economist, a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). In the past, he served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of YPF, a position he held from June 2020 until the end of November 2023. His departure from the state-owned oil company came after he was accused of being responsible for the gasoline shortage prior to the runoff election between Sergio Massa and Javier Milei.

Additionally, Lew was the CEO of 360 Energy Group and served as CFO at Genneia. He also has experience as General Manager of HSBC Argentina and Vice President of Local Markets at JP Morgan.

In this way, he returns to the government as Secretary of Finance, a position that had been vacant following Quirno's appointment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Caputo made the announcement through his social networks, where he described Lew's career and his time at the Central Bank.
