Political Consultant on Peronism, Macri, and Milei's Government

Ecuadorian political analyst Jaime Durán Barba assessed the actions of Argentina's new government, calling Santilli's appointment apt and Macri's criticism imprudent. He also predicted the collapse of Peronism under Cristina Kirchner's leadership.

Political consultant Jaime Durán Barba considered "Diego Santilli's appointment as Minister of the Interior to be very apt", said that Mauricio Macri "has been making mistakes since he had a great triumph in 2017", and predicted that Peronism "has no possibility" as long as Cristina Kirchner is one of its leaders.

Milei's bank annihilated the dream of homeownership with the rise in rates for UVA mortgage loans.

"Diego Santilli's appointment as minister is very apt, he is the kind of person who gets along with everyone, he is an element that was needed in a Government in which the vast majority are very rigid, very ideological people", affirmed the Ecuadorian consultant.

An expert in electoral campaigns, Durán Barba opined that "the first part of Javier Milei's last campaign ceased to be compatible with this chaotic mentality that prevails in society", but rated it "a hit when he sang rock and became the 'madman' who won the presidency".

Asked about the reality of Mauricio Macri, whom he advised, he said that "the worst thing that happened to him is having had a great triumph in 2017", a success that "led him to dissolve his technical teams and act on his instinct, and since then he has been doing very badly. Mauricio has not understood that he is a former President", he emphasized.

In addition, in dialogue with Radio Rivadavia, he questioned Macri's decision to criticize the appointment of Manuel Adorni as Chief of Staff.

"It was imprudent to have criticized Milei the appointment of Adorni. The president is Milei. If Mauricio, when he appointed Marcos Peña as Chief of Staff, had been told that he had no experience, he would have sent them to fry potatoes", he asserted.

After qualifying the result of the October 26 elections as "disconcerting", he considered that "it follows the line of what is happening throughout Latin America", where "people have changed", because "social networks provide us with a great deal of information".

"Today a good 'meme' moves more votes than a good editorial", he said and added that "polls have become something that definitely does not predict the future anywhere, and it is not a methodological problem, but that people have changed".

For Durán Barba, "there is widespread skepticism and people are asking for something new, it doesn't matter if it's from the left or the right", a situation that leads to "people voting for those who look least like traditional politicians".

After mentioning that this crisis has affected traditional parties around the world, he opined that Peronism is involved in that crisis and must "renew and change".

"If they do not renew deeply and continue with Cristina's leadership, they will happen to them like Evo Morales in Bolivia, from having a party that hegemonized everything, to not obtaining even a senator in Congress and only 14 deputies which is nothing between 357", he explained.

"Peronism has no possibility of reviving while Cristina Fernández is one of its leaders", he said and maintained that "every dance by Cristina on the balcony made some people have to vote for Milei out of the annoyance her presence caused".

The consultant asserted that "a time comes when some leaders are no longer current", and predicted that "if Milei fails, what will come next will be something more disruptive".
