Milei appoints Santilli as Minister of the Interior

President Javier Milei announced on Sunday that Diego Santilli will be the new Minister of the Interior, replacing Lisandro Catalán. Santilli, a prominent leader with extensive experience in national politics, primarily in the PRO party founded by former President Mauricio Macri, made the announcement through his official X account, posting a photo with the re-elected deputy from the province of Buenos Aires. This decision is part of a cabinet reshuffle following Milei's victory in the national legislative elections on Sunday, where Santilli narrowly defeated the Peronists in Buenos Aires province—a territory where the La Libertad Avanza alliance had been defeated in September. "We have Minister of the Interior: welcome Colo Santilli," Milei wrote, adding that Diego will lead talks with governors and lawmakers to build the necessary consensus in Congress for upcoming reforms. Hours earlier, to bolster support for President Milei, Santilli backed the decision not to invite Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof to the meeting with provincial leaders at the Casa Rosada. The newly elected deputy criticized the governor for having a "double standard," arguing that while Kicillof wrote an open letter to "dialogue with those he considers enemies," he "manages and votes against everything" that La Libertad Avanza advocates: "He didn't vote for the Single Ballot, didn't attend the May Pact, didn't support the law on recidivism and reiteration, didn't back the anti-mafia law. Where is he, why this double speech?"
