Today, during extensive hearings in the bicameral commission of the People's Defender of the National Congress, 38 pre-selected candidates for the position of People's Defender, which has been vacant for 15 years, and the seven aspirants for the position of National Penitentiary Prosecutor, were presented. Among the candidates for these positions are three national deputies whose mandates expire on December 10: former Minister of Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples of Jujuy Natalia Sarapura (UCR), security and criminalistics expert Ramiro Gutiérrez (Union for the Homeland), and former federal judge Fernando Carbajal (Democracy Forever). The same list also includes two other former national deputies, such as Remo Carlotto (2009-2017, Front for Victory, son of Estela de Carlotto) and former ambassador to the OECD Paula Bertol (2005-2013, PRO). Other well-known candidates are the former People's Defender of the City of Buenos Aires Alejandro Amor and former Buenos Aires City legislator and former head of INADI María José Lubertino, who, like Sarapura, is also running for the position of Defender of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents. During the hearings on this Thursday, first in the Blue Room of the Senate, the seven candidates for National Penitentiary Prosecutor presented their cases: Daniel Bodega, Fernando Carbajal, Ariel Cejas Meliare, Romina Cucchi, Gabriela Gusis, Sonia Páez, and Mariano Przybylski.
