National Gendarmeria Seizes Drugs and Reptiles in Raids

During multiple operations in Argentina, the Gendarmeria seized a large shipment of marijuana, millions in pesos, and exotic reptiles. In one case, they found contraband African geckos on a bus.

During one inspection, 25 plants, 12 seeds, and 8.30 grams of marijuana were found in a car's trunk. Additionally, in another vehicle traveling from the town of Catriló in La Pampa province to Comodoro Rivadavia, authorities discovered 66 million Argentine pesos hidden in different parts of the vehicle without proof of their legal origin. In two other private cars, marijuana and over 66 million pesos were also seized. While inspecting the bus's luggage compartment, security officers detected a package sent from the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Retiro to the Chubut town of Comodoro Rivadavia. The package was scanned with a portable scanner, which revealed an organic image of bottles containing small reptiles. Officials opened the bottles in the presence of witnesses and found three Tropical Cacero Geckos, native to Africa. The animals will be handed over to Regional Fauna in San Antonio Oeste, Río Negro province. In another operation, a private vehicle traveling from the city of Viedma in Río Negro province to the Chubut town of Puerto Madryn was stopped. A long-distance bus was inspected by the National Gendarmeria at kilometer 1,308 of National Route 3, where three lizards were found.
