Governor Axel Kicillof criticized U.S. intervention in Argentina's elections and stated that Milei's policies are harming the country's economy and sovereignty.

Buenos Aires Governor: 'Milei and Trump's Country Is Not the Country I Want'

The governor of Buenos Aires emphasized that external intervention and the policies of Milei's government are putting 'at risk many things.'

'Trump said something that, for me, goes beyond whether there will be an economic policy, spending, or deficit. He was very specific: if Milei doesn't win, he will sink the country,' the governor stated.

According to Kicillof, this has generated 'fear' in a sector of the population and 'Trump also ordered the Argentine right,' referring to the alliance between Milei and Macri.

'The most relevant, the most novel, the absolutely exceptional thing is Trump, it's Trump's intervention,' Kicillof concluded.

He highlighted Trump's explicit support for Milei and the intervention of the U.S. Treasury, through Scott Bessent, to 'sustain the exchange rate' before the elections.

The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, conducted a deep analysis of the results of the 2025 legislative elections on C5N and affirmed that 'we have to work on building an alternative' and 'rebuild the political force' of Peronism.

Kicillof highlighted that the result was 'very tight,' with a difference of 0.5% in favor of La Libertad Avanza (LLA).

'There is a lot of leadership, mayors, governors, social movements, sectors that have already understood that this is bad, it is harmful, and that a political alternative is needed,' he expressed.

When asked if he would seek to form a national space and be a presidential candidate in 2027, the governor stated: 'There is a lot of enthusiasm for articulating, for thinking, for having an answer.'

On the contrary, he predicted that the situation 'is going to get worse because the government gets emboldened and now brings in reforms that are nefarious.'

The future: building an alternative and 'expanding'

Looking ahead, Kicillof was firm: 'We cannot throw in the towel, we cannot go back.'

Additionally, he celebrated the result as the 'best outcome for a midterm election' for Peronism in the Province.

Criticism of Trump's and Bessent's 'intervention'

The governor dedicated a significant part of his analysis to the figure of Donald Trump and the 'intervention' of the United States in the election.

'A geopolitical and ideological, very risky intervention by the United States towards Argentina, to support Milei at all costs,' he defined.

Kicillof harshly criticized the country's economic situation: 'There are 200,000 new unemployed, tourism is broken, construction is destroyed, commerce is very bad, the sale of meat and milk is at its worst historical levels, and delinquent debtors are more than ever.'

He stressed that, even though 'money appeared' thanks to U.S. support, this will not 'improve the price of rent, the price of services, nor will it bring more demand, more salary, more work.'

'The country of Milei and Trump is not the country that I want,' he concluded.

Regarding his possible candidacy, he said: 'We have to rebuild the political force and then look for the best candidate.'

He insisted on the need to 'expand' the space and defend 'sovereignty, industry, production, work, culture, the university, science.'

He underscored that 'Fuerza Patria' 'maintained the same votes' as in the September provincial elections, refuting a loss of 5 points.
