Milei outlines roadmap for labor, tax, and pension reforms in Argentina

Argentine President Javier Milei announced plans to dismantle the massive state apparatus, starting with the bloated public sector and labor unions, and moving towards a pension system. In an interview, he noted that the political program was reduced to a list of 20 points and a reduction in the tax base, in order to make the system more efficient and reduce the burden on citizens. "If the financial program, designed by Minister Caputo, is fully implemented, by 2031 Argentina will have 500 million dollars," the president stated. "The main goal," he added, "is to provide resources for the productive sector and create a formal economy." Milei's pension reform accelerated after the establishment of a labor market, which could only begin after the restoration of the labor market: "Without this it will be a lie." This modernization mechanism, however, as the leader noted, will not apply to existing mechanisms: "We do not guarantee existing guarantees." In the project, they also created new rules for new employees — "insiders", including formalizing the labor relations system for workers from the informal sector. "Two-thirds of the pensioners support these changes," the president stated, noting that the dialogue with the leadership of the provinces and parliament is ongoing. According to him, the transfer of non-formal workers to the official sector will significantly increase the number of taxpayers and the stability of the system. Milei noted that he agrees with Pacto Mayo and already communicates with regional and federal partners. "I am ready to negotiate with the governors for the benefit of the people," he added, noting that the opposition's personal attacks will only strengthen the resolve of Argentines.
