The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has faced criticism and negative comments after his recent post on the platform X, where he mocked the name adopted by the new pope, Robert Francis Prevost Martínez, who will be officially known as León XIV. Milei used an artificial intelligence tool to generate the image of a lion in the traditional vestments of the pontiffs, following the announcement of the election of a new pope.
The name chosen by Prevost Martínez, León XIV, inspired the Argentine leader to share the image with the message: "THE FORCES OF HEAVEN HAVE GIVEN THEIR VERDICT CLEARLY." Some comments against Javier Milei and the generated image were critical, stating that it even embarrasses his compatriots and is a disrespect to Catholics.
The post caused outrage among thousands of Catholic faithful worldwide, who had just witnessed the presentation of the new pontiff. Many considered that the image and tone of the message were a disrespect toward the figure of the pope and the global religious sentiments.
