Celebration in Senate Over Defeat of Law Against Kirchner

Kirchnerist senators celebrated the fall of the law that could have disqualified former president Cristina Kirchner from future national candidacies with a shout of "Let's go." Before the session, Cristina Kirchner met at the Instituto Patria with leaders from her party, such as José Mayans, Juliana Di Tullio, and Anabel Fernández Sagasti. La Libertad Avanza shared a video of the celebration with the phrase: "When they celebrate, it means that decent Argentines are losing."

Amid expectations for its possible approval, the votes against from misionero senators Carlos Arce and Sonia Rojas Decu tipped the balance. From her seat, Alicia Kirchner celebrated with hugs and smiles alongside her colleagues from the Unión por la Patria bloc, while Vice President Victoria Villarruel called for silence in the chamber. The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, also criticized the scene: "There they are celebrating."

The Clean Slate bill, which aimed to prevent candidates for elective positions from being people convicted in the second instance for crimes against public administration, was rejected in the Senate by 36 votes in favor, and 37 were needed for its approval. This decision ignited an exuberant celebration in the Kirchnerist bloc, led by Senator Alicia Kirchner, whose video went viral on social media.

The initiative was promoted by Silvia Lospennato, a deputy from the PRO, and according to the president of the Chamber of Deputies, the scene of celebration by the Kirchnerists made it clear who not to vote for in each election.
