Protest Against INTI Restructuring in Argentina

The National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) is a key organization for people's daily lives, although its work often goes unnoticed. Both the current and previous governments have stigmatized state work and the existence of the State, which has caused concern among INTI workers.

In defense of their jobs and against the dismantling of the scientific system, INTI employees have been actively fighting. Giselle Santana, a member of the Granate Group of INTI, explains that they are facing a systematic weakening of the agency since Javier Milei took office. This dismantling process not only affects the workers but also jeopardizes the quality of the services provided by INTI to the population.

INTI was established in 1957 with the purpose of assisting national industry in a context of import substitution. Currently, the Institute has research and development centers dedicated to various industrial areas, providing technical assistance, improving product quality and technology, and enabling small and medium enterprises to compete and enhance their production. However, in the last year and a half, INTI has lost approximately 30% of its staff, hindering its functioning and putting the quality of the services it offers at risk.

In addition, there has been an announcement regarding the possibility of merging INTI with the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), which would mean a significant reduction in INTI's capabilities and competencies. INTI workers have mobilized to reject this merger and defend the importance of the Institute in the daily lives of the population. It is essential to highlight that INTI certifies the quality of a wide variety of industrial products, from food to construction materials, ensuring their quality and safety.

INTI employees have faced repression from police forces during their protests, reflecting the workers' determination to defend their rights and their workplace. Despite budgetary and staffing difficulties, INTI employees remain committed to their work and to the importance of maintaining the Institute as a guarantor of the quality and safety of the products we consume daily.
