A group of unions from the CGT led by Luis Barrionuevo is proposing at the next meeting of the Central Executive Council a 36-hour strike and the advancement of authority elections for the organization on Azopardo street. These representatives, known as the Blue and White, agreed on these proposals during a lunch prior to Thursday’s meeting of the CGT leadership.
The proposal from these unions consists of two main points. First, they propose to carry out a strike and mobilization of 36 hours on April 9 and 10 starting at 12 PM on the 9th, with transportation guarantees for the demonstrators. The second point involves requesting the calling of a CGT congress to advance elections and elect new leadership for the next four years, arguing the need for a renewed voice that defends workers' interests.
A new leadership is demanded that can face current challenges without being subordinated to petty political interests. However, this sector led by Barrionuevo is a minority within the CGT leadership and it is not guaranteed that their proposals will be accepted at Thursday's meeting.
