The candidate for deputy of the Broad Front for Democracy, Ricardo Alfonsín, stated that progressive, republican, and democratic parties do not promote coups d'état, pointing to the extreme right, which he linked to President Javier Milei, as responsible for such actions. In an interview for Splendid - 990, Alfonsín expressed his disagreement with the president's stance and emphasized that it is the extreme right sectors that attempt to carry out coups d'état.
Regarding the statements from the libertarian administration that labeled the protest by retirees as an attempt at a coup d'état, Alfonsín referenced the assault on the Capitol in the United States, highlighting that justice was clear on that matter. He criticized the police repression during the retirees' protest in Congress, claiming there were no grounds for it and questioning the actions of the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, whom he accused of violating the Penal Code.
The former ambassador in Madrid expressed his concern about the current situation in Argentina, denouncing the lack of democratic commitment by the president and the prohibition of difference and protest in the country. Additionally, he pointed out the authoritarian drift of the government and the repression against those who think differently. He also criticized PRO and sectors of the Civic Radical Union that seek alliances with La Libertad Avanza and called on the opposition to unite in a sanitary cordon to confront libertarian policies.
Alfonsín proposed putting a limit on the president and modifying the correlation of forces in Congress to counteract the influence of the right, which, despite being in the minority, has facilitated the approval of initiatives in Parliament. In this regard, he called on all political forces to seriously commit to this proposal.
