The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) will carry out its announced general strike on April 8th. This week, the union's Board of Directors will meet to determine the exact modality that this measure of force will take, as there are leaders advocating for it to be accompanied by a mobilization. According to union sources, the most combative sectors of the labor central were the promoters of this proposal.
In a meeting scheduled for Thursday, it will be decided whether the strike will be accompanied by a mobilization and, if so, whether it will head towards Congress or Plaza de Mayo. Although the official announcement will be made after the meeting of the Board of Directors, it has already been leaked that the strike will take place on April 8th.
"Héctor Daer," who is one of the co-secretaries general of the CGT, had anticipated the holding of this new strike before April 10th. In another meeting, Daer, along with the leadership of the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP), among whom was Juan Grabois, founder of this organization, announced the call for the strike. CGT leaders such as Hugo Moyano, Andrés Rodríguez, and José Luis Lingeri supported this decision.
In the days following the protest march last Wednesday in front of Congress, which was marked by episodes of repression and clashes between the police and demonstrators, the atmosphere within the CGT has intensified. This would be the third general strike that the CGT has carried out since Javier Milei assumed the presidency. The previous ones took place on January 24, 2024, and May 9 of last year, with high participation and an almost total shutdown in public transportation.
