Kicillof Calls for Primary Elections in Buenos Aires 2025

On March 5th, during the opening of the sessions, Governor Axel Kicillof expressed his opinion on the suspension of the PASO in the current context, describing it as reasonable. In this framework, Decree 367/2025 was signed, calling for the Primary, Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory (PASO) elections in the province of Buenos Aires for July 13, 2025.

According to information obtained by the Argentine News Agency (NA), the signing of the decree occurred at a time of uncertainty due to the National Government's decision to suspend the PASO at the national level for this year, which generated debates about its application in the province. The Buenos Aires Executive clarified that modifying the electoral regime is the exclusive competence of the Legislature, which has not yet addressed or resolved the suspension of the primaries.

In this context, Kicillof decided to comply with the current regulations and move forward with the organization of the electoral process, although he reiterated his stance in favor of suspending the provincial PASO, subject to approval by the Legislature. The governor stated that the final decision rests with that legislative body and committed to respecting it, urging swift action on this matter.
