The deputy from La Libertad Avanza, Lilia Lemoine, sparked controversy by downplaying the impact of police repression in social protests and suggesting that deaths could occur in future demonstrations. According to the Argentina News Agency (NA), Lemoine made these statements on a television program where her position was challenged by the journalists present.
During the interview, Lemoine recalled emblematic cases of repression in Argentina, including the murders of Kosteki and Santillán in 2002, and that of Mariano Ferreyra in 2010. In light of the violence unleashed in the protests, the deputy expressed: 'It shouldn't happen.' However, she added that 'you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs,' referring to the police repression suffered by retirees and football fans near Congress.
During the exchange, host Fabián Doman directly questioned Lilia Lemoine about whether she included the possibility of loss of human life, to which the legislator responded unreservedly: 'It could happen.' In response to this statement, journalist Mariano Yezze immediately intervened, stopping Lemoine in her tracks and stating: 'No.'
