Controversy in Argentine Congress Over Session Conduct

National deputy and president of the Civic Coalition, Maximiliano Ferraro, announced that he will present a motion to establish an investigative committee to analyze the conduct of "coercion" by Lisandro Almirón and other deputies from La Libertad Avanza. This analysis would aim to examine actions intended to influence other legislators and thus sabotage the quorum of the recent parliamentary session.

Ferraro's proposal would include a request to the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, to apply the procedure of Article 188 of the Internal Regulations in the next session, which would allow for the creation of an investigative committee with the support of an absolute majority. This committee would investigate alleged indiscipline by deputies, such as the pressures reported during the questioned session.

Regarding the incidents that occurred during the legislative day, Ferraro expressed his concern and emphasized the need to address the irregularities recorded. During the session, there were physical confrontations between deputies Almirón (LLA) and Oscar Zago (MID), as well as pressures exerted by other members of La Libertad Avanza for some legislators to abandon their seats.

After approving a declaration of emergency for Bahía Blanca, various political blocs, including the ruling party, PRO, and UCR, left the chamber with the aim of weakening the quorum, a strategy that was unsuccessful as the opposition managed to maintain it with difficulty. However, subsequent pressures were exerted by libertarian deputies toward colleagues who remained in their seats, leading to a decrease in the number of attendees and ultimately the suspension of the session.

Ferraro criticized both the violence exercised by deputy Almirón and Menem's abrupt decision to end the session, generating a negative reaction from the entire opposition. In his words, Ferraro expressed his rejection of these actions, emphasizing that neither the people nor the deputies elected these representatives to violate the constitutional and regulatory norms that ensure the proper functioning of Congress.
