After denouncing the repression suffered by oil workers of the company Explora SA from Puerto San Martín by members of the Argentine Naval Prefecture, the Federation of Workers of the Oilseed Industrial Complex has announced the start of a National Oil Strike. This will affect the export ports of Argentina's main exports.
The workers of Explora SA from Puerto San Martín demanded the immediate reinstatement of those dismissed, ignoring the mandatory conciliation dictated by the National Ministry of Labor. It all started when a supervisor provoked several workers, going so far as to try to run them over with a vehicle. In response, the Argentine Naval Prefecture deployed 60 personnel to repress the 25 workers at the plant.
In a statement, the unions expressed their condemnation of the repression and stated that they are taking this measure in response to the violence exercised against workers in their workplace. They held the national government, the Province of Santa Fe, employer associations, and companies in the sector accountable for the integrity and safety of oil workers.
They emphasized that they will not allow these aggressions to go unanswered and warned of the possibility of an escalation of violence. They also mentioned recent cases of state violence in other protests, highlighting the importance of preventing tragic consequences.
For their part, the labor organizations highlighted that the Chamber of the Oil Industry of Argentina tried to deny both the repression and the connection of the company Explora to the events.
