Priest Francisco "Paco" Olveira, a member of the Group of Priests in Option for the Poor, participated in a protest outside Congress in Argentina. In statements to the Agencia Noticias Argentinas, he expressed his outrage at the repression by security forces during the demonstration.
Olveira described the police action as a disgrace and a true dictatorship. He expressed solidarity with retirees and other groups present at the protest, stating that the violence against the demonstrators is unacceptable. Furthermore, he mentioned that if he were a police officer, he would resign due to the violence deployed against the people.
The demonstration aimed to demand the extension of the pension moratorium and the restoration of 100% of PAMI medications, among other demands. Various organizations of retirees, unions, social groups, and football fan groups joined this peaceful mobilization.
In the midst of the protest, Olveira pointed out that the repression exercised by security forces undermines democracy and the rights of citizens. His participation in the event reflects his commitment to the most vulnerable sectors of society and his rejection of institutional violence.
