The Union of Retired Workers in Struggle (UTJEL) will organize a conference at the Annex of the National Congress as preparation for the march scheduled for next Wednesday. This event comes amid tensions following an episode of repression carried out by the Federal Police and protesters during last week's mobilization.
In an official statement, UTJEL reported on the incidents that occurred last Wednesday, where press workers and retirees were injured. In response to these events, along with Human Rights organizations, they are calling for a conference to coordinate the organization of the new concentration planned for March 12.
Support from fans of various football clubs for the retirees' march is highlighted, after Chacarita supporters joined the mobilization towards Congress, generating incidents with the Police. The solidarity shown by these groups underscores the commitment of various institutions to the defense of the rights of older adults.
The main demand of retirees and pensioners has historically been the increase of pensions and the need for concrete responses from the authorities of the National Government. So far, the only measure announced has been the provision of a bonus of $70,000. The press conference prior to the march will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11 at 18:00 at Rivadavia 1841, CABA.
