The parents of Lucas, who was 20 years old and died in the Once Tragedy, feel satisfied with the judicial decision that rejected the request for house arrest for former Transportation Secretary Ricardo Jaime. The latter was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud and culpable derailment. The judge considered that, despite the age of the accused (70 years), factors such as his health and context should be evaluated before granting the benefit.
María Luján Rey, Lucas's mother, mentioned that age alone should not grant benefits in the fulfillment of sentences. She emphasized that Jaime does not have health problems that cannot be treated in prison and that he must serve his sentence in full. She stressed that the former official can request the benefit every six months, but the family will legally oppose these petitions.
Paolo Menghini, for his part, stated that the judicial decision reflects that Jaime's health problems can be treated in prison. He affirmed that every time an attempt is made to obtain house arrest, the family will fight to prevent it. They celebrated the ruling with joy and determination, confirming their firm stance in defense of the enforcement of the sentence established by justice.
