Trial for the Femicide of Catalina Gutiérrez

During the second day of the trial for the murder of Catalina, the grandmother of Néstor Aguilar Soto, the accused, and three friends of the victim gave their testimonies. The young man's grandmother stated that two people died in this tragedy, referring to her grandson as "dead in life." On the other hand, Catalina's friends revealed the affection they had for the murderer.

The accused faces charges of aggravated homicide due to premeditation and gender violence, although his lawyer plans to reduce the aggravating factors and maintain the charge of homicide. Meanwhile, the victim's family seeks to have the accused sentenced to the maximum penalty, that is, life imprisonment.

The crime occurred in Soto's apartment, where he stabbed Catalina during a violent argument, attempted to set the young woman's body on fire in his car, but was unsuccessful and ultimately confessed. The accused's grandmother admitted the terrible crime committed by her grandson. She also apologized to the victim's family and mentioned that her grandson is not a bad person, but that his mind played a trick on him.

The lawyer for Catalina's family expressed her intention to prove that it was a femicide, which occurred in July of the previous year.
