Jorge Macri Urges Solutions for Prisons in Buenos Aires

The head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macri, has urged the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, to urgently resolve the issue of the presence of prisoners in the city's police stations. Macri pointed out that police officers assigned to guard detainees should be protecting the streets and citizens, rather than spending their time maintaining security in police facilities.

In response, Bullrich stated that it is necessary to transfer the prisoners from the Buenos Aires police stations to federal prisons, as the vast majority of these detainees have committed crimes that fall under federal jurisdiction, such as drug trafficking. Additionally, the Minister criticized local authorities for not taking responsibility for the prisoners and for not fulfilling the construction of new facilities to house them.

Jorge Macri expressed his concern about the number of detainees in the police stations of the city and requested Bullrich to seek concrete political solutions to address this situation. For his part, Mauricio Macri, former president of Argentina, joined the criticism towards the national government and supported his cousin Jorge's demand.

In the midst of this controversy, MarĂa Eugenia Vidal, former governor of Buenos Aires, also participated in the debate emphasizing the need for the Ministry of Security and the Federal Penitentiary Service to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the detention and confinement of prisoners. The discussion has intensified amid accusations and reproaches between the different government bodies involved in the management of security and the penitentiary system in the city of Buenos Aires.
