Constitutional lawyer Eduardo Barcesat strongly criticized the actions of presidential advisor Santiago Caputo against radical deputy Facundo Manes, and questioned the Executive Power's decision to appoint judges Ariel Lijo and Manuel García-Mansilla by decree. After an altercation in the corridors of Congress, Barcesat described the incident as an "act of institutional violence" and accused Caputo of "intimidating" Manes.
Barcesat expressed his disappointment at the lack of corrective measures from the legislative authorities present at the moment, including the Vice President and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, considering that they did not intervene to stop the abuse.
Regarding the controversy, Barcesat raised the question: "What would have happened if someone had acted the same way with the President? We want institutional integrity." Additionally, he pointed out that during Macri's government, former Chief Justice Ricardo Lorenzetti refused to swear in judges proposed by decree, while in this situation, no change in the Court's stance regarding the appointments is observed.
Barcesat emphasized that it is essential to preserve institutions and the separation of powers, and called for mobilization and popular resistance, along with legislative initiatives, as ways to defend democracy and prevent violent and arbitrary actions that may undermine the democratic system in the country.
