President Javier Milei is preparing to lead a peculiar Legislative Assembly that will be held by his supporters but ignored by the opposition, which has decided not to participate in a gesture of rebellion. The Senate has sent invitations to governors, legislators, the Supreme Court, ministers, ambassadors, security authorities, and religious representatives for the opening of ordinary sessions.
At the event, the entire Cabinet will stand in front of the presidential lectern, while the provincial governors will be on the other side. Some Peronist leaders, such as Sergio Ziliotto, Gustavo Melella, Ricardo Quintela, and Gildo Insfrán, have decided not to attend in solidarity with Axel Kicillof, who was not called.
Among the president's allies, the presence of some legislators is expected, although several have not confirmed their participation. On the other hand, several provincial governors will also not attend due to local commitments. Despite the absences, the presence of judges invited by the president is anticipated, despite the criticism received regarding their appointment.
The block of Peronist senators has announced its absence as a sign of disapproval of Milei's management, and the Chamber of Deputies will also join the initiative. Government allies will send representatives to the chamber. In contrast, the PRO block led by Cristian Ritondo will be part of the Assembly.
The Government will seek to counterbalance the absences with the presence of supporters on the balconies of the chamber. This Legislative Assembly will highlight the division between the government and the opposition in a notably cleared-out chamber.
