The opposition bloc decided not to attend the opening ceremony of the ordinary session period, where President Javier Milei will officiate. In an official statement, they mentioned several reasons justifying their absence. First, they criticized what they called "Milei's crypto-scam," and then mentioned the appointment of judges to the Court by decree without Senate approval. They also expressed their discontent because the government has no intention of addressing the budget law for the second consecutive year.
The chamber where Milei will present his Government plan for 2025 will be partially empty. This year, 127 of the 257 deputies and 24 of the 72 senators must be renewed, marking a confrontational electoral environment. The left, with five representatives, will also not be present in the Legislative Assembly.
On the other hand, some blocs assure partial attendance. The UCR will have at least half of its twenty deputies present. Other blocs, such as Democracy for Ever and Federal Meeting, will also attend with reduced delegations, evidencing a scenario of strong confrontation between the government and the opposition.
For its part, government-aligned blocs like MID, Production and Labor, and Independence will be present. The absence of the Kirchnerist blocs and the left will present an image of a diminished chamber due to political tensions. Meanwhile, the PRO bloc, the main ally of the government, assures notable attendance.
Various blocs have announced their decision not to attend, denouncing mistreatment by Milei and discontent with the government management. This distancing between the government and the opposition will be reflected in the Legislative Assembly, where the presence of different blocs will be uneven.
