President Javier Milei will be the main protagonist of a Legislative Assembly taking place tomorrow. The opening ceremony is expected to follow a pattern similar to the last time the president was in Congress, with strong support from libertarian activists on the balconies and the absence of hard opposition blocs.
Vice President Victoria Villarruel will preside over the Assembly, despite being separated from the government power structure. Alongside her will be the Senate leader and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem. Milei will be welcomed into the chamber under a curtain of applause and will approach a special podium to deliver his speech.
The Assembly will be attended by cabinet ministers, provincial governors, and other special guests such as state secretaries, Supreme Court members, and ambassadors. However, accredited journalists will occupy a lateral section of the chamber, as the first-floor balcony will be reserved for officials and diplomats.
The intervention of the Executive Branch in organizing the Assembly, with a significant security presence, is unusual in the democratic history of the country. Several political blocs, such as United for the Homeland, the Left Front, and others, have confirmed their absence from the event due to disagreements with the president and past government decisions.
Hundreds of government supporters are expected to fill the stands of the chamber to show their support for the president during his speech. A fervent atmosphere is anticipated, with chants, speeches, and applause from the supporters, turning the Assembly into an emotional event filled with encouragement for the libertarian ideas promoted by Milei.
