President's Decision on Judicial Appointments

After nearly a year stuck in the Senate, President Javier Milei announces the appointment of judges in commission due to technical qualifications being met. The appointments come amid frustration over Senate delays.

President's Decision on Judicial Appointments

After a year in which the nominations of two people with the technical and suitability requirements have failed to advance in the Senate, the President has made the decision to appoint judges in commission. Presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, reaffirmed that judges Ariel Lijo and Manuel García Mansilla are appointed in commission and noted that this is the determination of Javier Milei.

"We have always said: the process of appointing judges in commission was always going to be subject to our understanding that the Justice System might have some type of inconvenience in its functioning," expressed the presidential spokesperson. He added that "there is not much more to clarify" and that the necessary legal steps will be followed for the decision to be carried out.

In this regard, Javier Milei emphasized that the necessary time has been waited and that, having met the technical and suitability requirements, the appointment of the judges in commission was the most appropriate given the circumstances. He also highlighted that this is not about partisan issues, but about technical and competence aspects that both candidates sufficiently meet.

Additionally, Manuel Adorni stressed that the process that follows in the Senate is the exclusive responsibility of that chamber and emphasized that the decision to appoint judges in commission is to ensure the normal functioning of justice, especially in the Supreme Court after a year of stagnation in the Senate.
