National Deputy of PRO Alejandro Finocchiaro criticized teacher unions for their strikes and specifically targeted the Confederation of Education Workers of the Argentine Republic (CTERA) following the national strike that took place at the start of the school year in several districts of the country.
In an interview on the program "Cristina sin vueltas" on Radio Rivadavia, Finocchiaro expressed his desire for the Senate to approve and enact his project to declare education as "essential strategic service." The legislator emphasized that Argentina has had a higher number of teacher strikes than other countries in South America.
Finocchiaro proposed the repeal of what he called the "abomination" of the national teachers' bargaining agreement, arguing that there are no national teachers. He pointed out the importance of regulating the right to strike in general and explained that his project does not eliminate this right but establishes that in the event of a teachers' strike, schools must remain open.
The national deputy described CTERA as "the great tumor of Argentine education" and expressed his outrage at the situation, highlighting that education was fundamental in overcoming his humble origins.
