The Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, accused the Ancestral Mapuche Resistance (RAM) of causing the fires in Los Alerces National Park, located in Chubut, labeling them as "fire terrorists." In a social media message, Bullrich asserted that those responsible will be found and will face legal consequences.
According to the minister, the RAM carried out these fires as a reprisal following the eviction of alleged Mapuche occupants and the declaration of the organization as a terrorist group. Bullrich emphasized that firefighting aircraft, brigades, and machinery have been deployed to combat the fires in various provinces, which have already destroyed more than 40 thousand hectares in Chubut, Río Negro, and Neuquén in a period of approximately 40 days.
"Their actions will have the consequences provided for by the Anti-Terrorism Law, and we will not stop until they pay for it," Bullrich emphasized, announcing the government's determination to find those responsible. Following the appearance of new hotspots in Los Alerces, Santiago Hardie, National Director of Federal Support for Emergencies, backed the minister's claims and confirmed that expert evaluations are being conducted to determine the intentional origin of the fires.
In statements to a local media outlet, Hardie noted that the RAM is linked to these events, citing the claim of the fires as a struggle tactic by a member of the organization. The main concern of the authorities is to prevent those responsible from escaping justice.
