Senate Rejects Commission to Investigate Cryptogate

The Argentine Senate has rejected the formation of a commission to investigate the controversial 'Cryptogate' involving President Javier Milei. Despite gathering 47 affirmative votes, the initiative fell short of the required two-thirds majority, leading to speculations regarding potential executive pressure. Further scrutiny of Milei's actions in the crypto market will not occur.

Senate Rejects Commission to Investigate Cryptogate

Today, the Senate rejected the establishment of a commission aimed at investigating the cryptogate, with Javier Milei and Karina Milei as protagonists. Despite having 47 votes in favor, two-thirds of the total 48 votes were needed for approval. The rejection received 23 votes, including that of radical senator Eduardo Vischi. The missionaries Carlos Arce and Sonia Rojas Decut were absent from the vote. With this decision, Javier Milei's intervention in the crypto market will not be investigated by the chamber.

Radical senator Pablo Blanco had promoted the creation of this commission, which received support from several figures in his party, such as Víctor Zimmerman, Stella Maris Olalla, Mariana Juri, Eduardo Galaretto, and Mercedes Valenzuela. The PRO bloc also joined the rejection, except for Guadalupe Tagliaferri, who subsequently unsuccessfully requested the questioning of the Chief of Cabinet, Guillermo Francos.

Additionally, several members of the United Provinces bloc, such as Juan Carlos Romero, Carlos Espíndola, Lucila Crexell, and Alejandra Vigo, voted against the investigative commission. This situation sparked speculation about possible influences from the Mendoza Executive Branch to prevent the investigation into Milei. Despite the doubts, Javier Milei's intervention in the crypto market will remain free from investigations by the Senate.
