Amid the controversy surrounding the promotion of the cryptocurrency $LIBRA by Milei and the leaked messages from the project's advisor, Hayden Davis, presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni downplayed the impact and stated that the case "does not harm the Government." Adorni proposed the name "LIBRA" in clear reference to the British Pound, suggesting a possible intention to "tokenize" the Argentine economy by the current presidential spokesperson and the president.
In response to the criticisms from Kirchnerism and the demand for political trial pushed by the Unión por la Patria bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Adorni defended Milei and assured that the $LIBRA scandal does not affect the image or credibility of the controversial economist. According to him, the population observes the decrease in inflation, economic growth, dollar stability, and a government without corruption.
Regarding the losses of the approximately 74,000 investors who acquired $LIBRA after the President's publication, Adorni justified the situation, indicating that until the controversy broke out on social media, the president acted in good faith. Despite the growing attention from Justice regarding the case, Adorni stated in an interview with A24 that "nothing happened here" and that for the ruling party, there was no crime in Milei's publication about $LIBRA.
In a recent discovery, it was revealed that in April 2020, during the pandemic, Manuel Adorni had proposed the same name, LIBRA, for a new currency in Argentina. Maximiliano Firtman pointed out that on April 24, 2020, Javier Milei and Adorni were debating the possible name of a currency for the country, unearthing this interesting fact. Adorni described the accusations against him as "classic political operations" and lashed out at the opposition, especially Kirchnerism, accusing them of being part of "the helicopter club."
