The Chamber of Deputies will debate on Thursday the situation regarding the concession for the maintenance and expansion of the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway. The president of the Transport Commission called the meeting in response to a request from deputy Maximiliano Ferraro. Officials from the Executive Power will attend as speakers at the meeting that will take place in Congress at 2 PM.
The controversy erupted after the government annulled the bidding for the Main Navigable Waterway after only one bidder, the Belgian company DEME, presented a proposal. Criticism pointed to a lack of transparency in the process, leading to the opening of an investigation into alleged pressures from DEME on its competitors.
In relation to this matter, presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni announced the annulment of the bidding and the opening of an investigation into the conduct of the Belgian company.
