Milei Heads to Washington for Key Meetings

The President of the Nation, Javier Milei, will travel this Wednesday to the United States amidst the controversy over the promotion of the cryptocurrency $Libra, to participate in a new edition of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and to meet with Elon Musk, the new official, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

The president will depart at 00:10 on Thursday on a special flight to Washington and will arrive around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (Argentina time). He will be accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo; presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni; Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei; and the delegation will be completed by the chancellor, Gerardo Werthein, who will wait for him in the United States.

On the same Wednesday at 17:00, the libertarian will meet again with Musk, who took the lead of the White House Office of Efficiency following Trump's inauguration, and at 19:00, he will do the same at the credit agency's offices with Georgieva. The second meeting, which will also involve the head of the Ministry of Finance, is part of the negotiations that the libertarian administration is carrying out with the organization for the design of a new agreement, which the president assured is only missing "the bow."

On the agenda for Thursday, the president will deliver a speech at 13:00 at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) titled "The Argentine Economic Model" and then meet with World Bank President, Ajay Banga. As the last activity, he will present at a new edition of the Conservative Political Action Conference, which is held from February 19 to 22 in Washington. Milei will speak on Saturday, the same day Trump will close the event, so both are expected to hold their fourth meeting.

According to the Argentine news agency, there was no formal request for an official meeting since American tradition establishes that heads of state do not engage in bilateral meetings during the first months of their administration in the White House. However, an informal exchange between both presidents is not ruled out. In Balcarce 50, they revealed to this agency that the libertarian administration will seek to advance the conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement with the United States, and despite the announcements of tariffs on exports made by the Republican, they deny that the libertarian will request an exception.

That same night, Saturday, February 22, at 22:00, the delegation will fly to Buenos Aires and will arrive around 8:20 a.m. on Sunday.
