Economy Minister Luis Caputo commented on the recent controversy generated by President Javier Milei's statements about the cryptocurrency Libra. Caputo stated that this situation had no significant impact on the markets and emphasized that no crime was committed in relation to this issue.
Caputo explained that Argentina is undergoing a cyclical change, and despite short-term volatility resulting from the news, the general trend will not change. He highlighted the honesty and transparency of the president, stating that he has full trust in him.
In his statements to A24's news program, Caputo mentioned that the market decline was not significant and that this would not alter the country's economic policy, which he considers the most important. He assured that current policies will remain unchanged and that the president immediately acknowledged any mistakes made.
Additionally, the minister emphasized that a record surplus is being announced in January and that the Argentine economy is in the process of recovery, reflected in the increase in wages over the past nine months. According to Caputo, what really matters to the population is the decrease in inflation and the recovery of wages, as well as tax reductions for companies and economic growth, aligning with the current government's direction.
Regarding the possible repercussions of the controversy on negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, the minister assured that it would not affect them at all, although he acknowledged that international media could use the issue to cast doubt on the country's credibility.
