Judge María Servini received a request to prohibit President Javier Milei from leaving the country and to prevent any attempt to interfere in the investigation regarding the so-called 'cryptogate'. Last Friday, the president promoted investment in the cryptocurrency $LIBRA through his social networks, claiming that this project would contribute to Argentina's economic growth by financing small businesses and Argentine ventures.
Lawyer Gregorio Dalbón formally submitted the request, having previously reported him to the International Court for his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. On this occasion, the lawyer based his request on the status of 'defendant' that President Milei and his sister, Karina Milei, who is also the Secretary of the Presidency, hold.
"Given the seriousness of the reported facts and the possibility that the defendants might attempt to hinder the investigation by holding meetings with collaborators abroad, particularly in the United States, I request that both be prohibited from leaving the country as a precautionary measure to ensure the proper development of the process," Dalbón expressed in the submitted document.
Dalbón also mentioned that there is sufficient evidence suggesting the possible commission of crimes such as fraud, bribery, conflicts of interest with public function, and violations of the Public Ethics Law. These actions, according to the lawyer, seem to have been carried out within the framework of an illicit association, making it necessary to adopt precautionary measures to prevent any attempt to coordinate the defense together outside the Justice system.
In a statement to El Destape, Dalbón mentioned that he will travel to New York this Thursday to meet with the law firm that is handling the President's fraud case in the United States.
