
The Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Werthein, met with several international leaders and high officials during the 61st Security Conference in Munich. According to the Foreign Ministry, these meetings addressed the fundamental aspects of Argentina's foreign policy and free market economy with the aim of strengthening strategic ties in areas such as energy, defense, investments, and trade through bilateral agreements.
During the meeting with the German Minister of Finance, Jörg Kukies, ongoing negotiations for the supply of Argentine gas to Germany under the Argentina LNG Plan were discussed. The interest of German funds in expanding projects related to critical minerals such as lithium and copper was also mentioned.
In another meeting, this time with the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, the importance of finalizing the EFTA-Mercosur Agreement negotiations during Argentina's Pro Tempore Presidency in Mercosur was emphasized. The relevance of cooperation between Norway and Argentina in the LNG sector was also highlighted.
Additionally, Werthein met with the elected president of Venezuela, González Urrutia, reaffirming Argentina's support for him as a defender of freedom in his country. With NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, discussions were held about Argentina's integration process as a Global Ally of NATO.
During the day, Werthein also held meetings with leaders and officials from other countries, such as Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and China, addressing bilateral and international issues of interest. In each meeting, relevant aspects of Argentina's foreign policy and economy, as well as opportunities for cooperation in various areas, were highlighted.
