The National Government of Argentina has made the decision to declare the Ancestral Mapuche Resistance (RAM) as a "terrorist" organization. The measure was officialized through Resolution 210/2025 published in the Official Bulletin, based on a technical report linking the RAM to violent episodes, especially intentional fires in the south of the country.
In the statement, the Government argued that the RAM has connections with the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM) and poses a serious threat to national security. It is noted that, after the repeal of Decree No. 805/21, which extended the deadlines of Law No. 26.160 that prevented evictions of usurped lands, there has been an increase in intentional fires in southern Argentina, with fires in provinces such as Neuquén, Río Negro, and Chubut.
According to the report, it has been confirmed that several fires were intentionally set, and complaints have been received regarding this. It was mentioned that the RAM operates together with other groups under fictitious names but following its leadership. The declaration of the RAM as a terrorist organization will involve defunding such groups and coordinating actions against terrorism with national agencies.
The Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, expressed on social media that the RAM was registered in the Public Registry of Persons and Entities linked to Acts of Terrorism and Its Financing (RePET). It was pointed out that the Mapuche organization attacked national sovereignty by causing forest fires and instilling fear among citizens. The minister emphasized that there will be no place for violent acts in the government and that the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the process will be allowed.
