Division in the UxP Block over the Electoral Law

The UxP block of deputies showed a notable division in the vote on the suspension of the PASO. With 25 votes in favor and 24 abstentions, this conflict reveals the internal fragmentation within the party, supporting or rejecting the directives of Cristina Kirchner.

Division in the UxP Block over the Electoral Law

The bloc of deputies from Union for the Fatherland (UxP) showed a marked division in the voting of the law for the suspension of the PASO. The fragmentation became evident as the number of those who voted against and abstained in the session exceeded those who voted in favor. Although other blocs such as Federal Encounter and the UCR also had desertions, none suffered the same division as UxP.

Germán Martínez, the president of the bloc, had to deal with the internal fracture by abstaining in the vote to show an ecumenical stance. In total, 25 deputies from UxP voted in favor of the suspension of the PASO, 24 abstained, and only 43 followed the rejection stance proposed by Cristina Kirchner.

Among the deputies who supported the suspension of the PASO are names like Sergio Massa, Cecilia Moreau, Ramiro Gutiérrez, among others. Legislators responding to provincial governors such as Gerardo Zamora and Raúl Jalil also backed the measure. Similarly, the abstentions of figures such as Leandro Santoro, Victoria Tolosa Paz, and Gisela Marziotta, as well as representatives of other governors, are notable.

In the UCR, the majority of the 20 members voted in favor, while two expressed opposition and two more abstained. In the case of Federal Encounter, the majority of its 16 members supported the suspension of the PASO, with some exceptions that voted against or were absent during the vote, reflecting the complexity of stances within the chamber of deputies.
