Morena Rial was arrested during the early morning for being implicated in a robbery, which led to the resurgence of past interviews, including one in which Silvia D’Auro accused adopted people of having a tendency to commit theft. The young woman's mother and ex-wife of journalist Jorge Rial linked this idea to the appropriation of babies during the last Military Dictatorship.
In an interview with Fernanda Iglesias in 2014, D’Auro mentioned that she had to start locking the cabinets in her house because Morena was stealing her clothes, and expressed: "Adopted children have a story that, because they believe they were stolen (...) they have a tendency to steal. Stealing money, things, hiding things (...) Because they feel that is what was done to them."
Jorge Rial, separated from D’Auro since 2011, reacted to his ex-wife's statements indicating that they should not discourage those who dream of being adoptive parents. In 2016, the case was framed in terms of Law No. 23,952 by the corresponding institute.
After this episode, D’Auro distanced herself from the media and her daughters' lives, and she was even accused of abandonment, which led Morena to consider taking her to court. The publicist radically changed her life and moved to San Martín de los Andes.
In the midst of the controversy, the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism condemned D’Auro for her discriminatory behavior following a complaint filed by a man with the entity.
