Former president Alberto Fernández appeared before federal judge Julián Ercolini to testify in the case of gender violence towards his ex-partner, former first lady Fabiola Yáñez. In an extensive statement, Fernández asserted that he never exercised physical violence against Yáñez and requested his dismissal.
During his statement, Fernández explained that the witnesses had never mentioned witnessing any act of violence on his part and reiterated that the court was not competent to handle the case. The former president arrived at Comodoro Py 2002 under strict security measures, where the questioning took place in the presence of Judge Ercolini and prosecutor Ramiro González.
The hearing lasted approximately 40 minutes, during which excerpts of the accusation against Fernández were read. After his statement, the judge was in a position to decide whether to indict him, declare a lack of merit, or dismiss the case. The questioning was held after two postponements last year due to appeals lodged by the former president's defense.
In the statement of defense submitted during the hearing, Fernández asserted that he had never exercised physical violence against Fabiola Yáñez and refused to answer questions from the judge and the prosecution.
