President Javier Milei signed the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 58/2025 to make modifications to the cabinet structure and reorganize ministerial functions. The main objective of these changes is to adapt the ministry to the paradigm shift in the concept of security, focusing on life, liberty, and property of individuals as fundamental pillars for the development of individual life projects.
In this regard, the decree abolishes the Press Secretariat of the Presidency and transfers its functions to the new Secretariat of Communication and Media. The presidential cabinet will consist of eight ministries: Foreign Affairs, Defense, Economy, Justice, National Security, Health, Human Capital, and Deregulation and Transformation of the State.
Additionally, the Presidential Secretariats are restructured, now including General, Legal and Technical, Strategic Normative Planning, State Intelligence, Communication and Media, and Culture. One of the most significant changes is the renaming of the Ministry of Security, which will be called the Ministry of National Security, with a special focus on the prevention and fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other complex crimes.
In line with these changes, President Milei appointed Patricia Bullrich as the new Minister of National Security, as established in Decree 59/2025 published in the Official Gazette. This move seeks to strengthen the ministry's attention and response to current challenges in security and crime, reinforcing its commitment to the protection of citizens and the fight against serious crimes.
