The former president of Argentina, Cristina Kirchner, lost her privileged pension in November 2024, resulting in an estimated savings of $21,827,624 for the country. This measure also included the cancellation of the pension she received from the late former president Néstor Kirchner. The Ministry of Human Capital clarified that the withdrawal of the pension was not a consequence of a criminal conviction, but a response to the consideration of "political indignity" due to her involvement in a fraudulent administration crime.
On the other hand, Amado Boudou, the former vice president of the country, also lost his privileged pension days after Kirchner. The justification behind this decision was that Boudou was convicted of corruption in the Vialidad case. The National Administration of Social Security (Anses) rejected the appeals of both former officials to recover their privileged pensions and additionally requested Boudou to return 280 million pesos that he had improperly received.
Anses highlighted that the assignment of privilege is not related to good performance in office, but to recognition of honor and merit, and that both former officials do not meet the necessary ethical requirements to maintain such a pension. Cristina Kirchner and Amado Boudou can turn to the Federal Social Security Court to appeal this decision, but so far, the denial of their applications to recover the privileged pensions has been confirmed.
