The General Secretary of ATE Nacional, Rodolfo Aguiar, expressed his concern regarding the Navy's decision to carry out the purging and possible shredding of valuable documentation for democracy. He believes that this procedure contradicts human rights policies and the pursuit of truth and justice for the crimes of the last military dictatorship.
ATE denounced that the dismissal of the Team for the Survey and Analysis of the Armed Forces Archives, composed of professionals from various fields, is part of a broader process of attacking human rights and the policies of Memory, Truth, and Justice. This team was essential to provide information in judicial cases for crimes against humanity.
The union organization sent a request for information to the Ministry of Defense, led by Luis Petri, to explain the criteria for this operation of transferring and purging archives, ensuring the preservation of the documentation under appropriate conditions. ATE questions who will be responsible for selecting the files to be purged and shredded, claiming that current laws in the country are being violated.
The Secretary of Human Rights of ATE Nacional, Valeria Taramasco, warned about the consequences of this situation, noting that behind these acts is a clear strategy to legitimize dictatorial practices to silence those who think differently today. She considers that dismantling the team responsible for analyzing and preserving the archives, and now contemplating their destruction, is a grave act aimed at destroying important evidence even forty years later.
