The Ministry of Security of Argentina plans to deploy 310 police officers from various federal forces in areas considered critical, such as the Bermejo River and National Route 34, to control the border with Bolivia and prevent risk situations. The governor of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz, confirmed the construction of the fence in the Aguas Blancas area, stating that it will reduce the risk of incidents and contribute to monitoring by the police forces.
Regarding the construction of the border fence, Sáenz emphasized that it will provide better conditions for orderly and safe migration, preventing smuggling and illegal trafficking, as well as strengthening the local economy. The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, praised the security work done by the Ministers of Security and Human Capital, Patricia Bullrich and Sandra Pettovello, respectively, and confirmed plans to build the fence in the area to channel border control.
The authorities of Bolivia expressed concern over the Argentine plan to install a 200-meter fence on the border, announcing that they will request information through diplomatic channels. For his part, the Bolivian Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, mentioned that the proposed 200 meters of fence represent less than 0.026% of the border and that all walls eventually fall.
The Argentine Ministry of Security indicated that the 2.5-meter-high fence will be installed from the Argentine immigration office to the bus terminal in Aguas Blancas with the aim of regulating the flow of migrants coming from Bolivia. The local administrator, Adrián Zigarán, communicated that the decision comes from this ministry and emphasized the importance of the measure to strengthen border control. In response to Bolivia's criticisms, Sáenz described the neighboring statements as comical and reaffirmed that Argentina is not invading Bolivian territory with this action.
