The head of the railway machinists' union "La Fraternidad", Omar Maturano, called on the Government to convene a dialogue among the various sectors of society amid the train strike carried out by his union. During a morning plenary, Maturano expressed strong rejection of the authorities of Trenes Argentinos for placing signs with his name blaming him for the strike. He emphatically mentioned the importance of pointing out the true responsible parties in situations of delays, cancellations, and railway accidents.
In this context, the union leader emphasized the need for social dialogue to address the ongoing adjustments, especially regarding pensions and health issues. Maturano stressed the lack of salary adjustment proposals until August 2024, and criticized the meager offer of 2.4% last December, when prices of the basic basket continued to rise. The union leader made it clear that he is dissatisfied with the situation, assuring that the labor sector will not tolerate impositions and will seek to defend its rights.
In another instance, Maturano requested that the Government manage to preserve social peace and convene a humble dialogue among the various affected sectors. The unionist outlined his stance in defense of democracy and rejection of practices that undermine the country's interests. He also lamented the lack of concrete responses from governmental authorities in recent months, highlighting the need for fair and equitable treatment for workers.
In a firm tone, Maturano made it clear that, while they are willing to support the Government, they demand to be heard and to receive satisfactory answers to their demands. In light of the difficulties in lifting the force measure, the unionist emphasized the need to respect labor rights and avoid inequalities in the treatment of workers. The strength in his statements evidences the determination of unions to defend their interests and fight for fair working conditions in a scenario of challenges and tensions with the authorities.
